We are a family owned farm located on 5.26 acres in Lick Creek, Illinois. Farmers Andrew Banks and Sarah Newman specialize in pasture based hogs and poultry.
Sarah and Andrew inherited their farm in 2016, after the death of Sarah's grandmother in 2012. Ground was broken for the home site over the winter of 2015, and the house construction was begun in January of 2016.
They received their first 5 hens on Christmas Day, 2011. After 5 years of experimenting on Andrew's parents' property, the move and increase in acreage was a much needed expansion.
They raise heritage breed egg birds (Plymouth Barred Rocks, Americaunas, and Buff Orpingtons), Cornish cross broilers for meat, and hogs. All animals are raised on pasture, with non-GMO feed as supplement. Chickens are rotated daily in moveable chicken tractors, while pigs are rotated on a 3-5 week basis. They also produce small vegetables and fruits on a self-sufficient basis, as well as culinary herbs for restaurants around the Southern Illinois region.
Visit us at the Farmers Market of Carbondale every Saturday 8am-12pm from April-November, or call to arrange pick-up!
